Prahran Accommodation

Prahran Hotels

The inner-city Melbourne suburb of Prahran is abuzz day and night. It’s all about the shopping, from antiques to vintage beauties and underground designer fashion, as well as the thriving food and coffee scene and thumping nightlife. A popular hangout for locals, tourists love Prahran too! So get amongst it with one of our Prahran hotels!

Even historically Prahran was a favoured shopping mecca. As a hotspot for the rag trade, furniture production, brewing, baking and delicious jam-making, this area started drawing in the shoppers as soon as it was connected to the rest of the city by tram around the turn of the 19th century. Suffering a decline at the hands of new shopping centres in the 1960s, a revival brought Prahran back to life in the 80s with a speciality focus.

With all that history, Prahran’s many unique shops are still housed in beautiful old architecture, so don’t forget to look up when you’re wandering up and down the main streets: Chapel Street and High Street. Sure to charm, you’ll unearth everything that’s kitsch, boutique, avant-garde, raunchy, retro, vintage or edgy. From fashion to accessories, furniture, toys, homewares and all kinds of random snags, even if your budget’s low the fun is in the hunt. If it’s collector magazines you crave, Mag Nation is home to a selection of weird and wonderful – and some almost extinct – titles.

Chances are you won’t make it into every shop before you get lulled into a nearby café. With eateries spilling out onto the street, people-watching is primetime viewing here. If you’d prefer to cater yourself, Prahran Market is Melbourne’s oldest continuously running food market, established in 1864. Stallholders pride themselves on high-quality fresh produce, meat and seafood, deli items and speciality goods. Who’s hungry now?

Once day turns to night, get those dancing shoes on because Prahran gets overrun with locals keen to get down and jiggy. A wander up the main thoroughfares will quickly reveal which bar, pub or club is your kind of jaunt. If the night leaves your head thumping more than you’d planned, head to the nearby Victoria Gardens for a bit of fresh air and quiet time.

Just a stone’s throw away you can explore other parts of the city too, like St Kilda, South Melbourne and Richmond. With the Melbourne CBD just 6km away, getting there and back to Prahran is easy on a tram or train. If you do drive to Prahran, beware that parking could be limited. Wot’s not to love about this part of town? This is where the excitement’s at! So get booking your Prahran accommodation now.
