The eastern suburbs loosely consists of the area between the Melbourne CBD and the Dandenong Ranges. Ringwood is 23km out of town and the birthplace of the famous ‘Ringwood Hops’ used in several well-known Australian beers. It has plenty of parks and open green spaces for a nice walk or picnic, especially local favourite Ringwood Lake. Green slopes and walking and bike tracks surround this one kilometre shoreline of a peaceful lake with a bridge and platform. Those who want to do some serious walking can tackle a section of the Dandenong Creek Trail, a legendary 43km track that stretches all the way from Ringwood to Carrum. For air-conditioned shopping comfort, take a trip to Eastland Shopping Centre and browse over 230 stores. If you want something a little different, wander down pleasant, suburban Greenwood Avenue for a visit to the Reverse Art Truck, where you can fill up a garbage bag with recycled and rejected art supplies for just $30.
Stay in Glen Waverley and drop into Century City Walk, the suburb’s entertainment centre. Under its domed skyline, you can dine on a range of fine food from Italian to Japanese to pancakes before you go bowling or hit the cinema. Glen Waverley is also a great place to go shopping for collectibles, with plenty of antique shops in town.
Burwood has a Westfield Shopping Centre and a park with a children’s playground, pond and outdoor chessboard – a nice place for family fun. Kew has fancy mansions, the restaurants and shops of Burke Road and the beautiful 260-hectare Yarra Bend Park. If you want to be close to the Dandenong Ranges, book one of our Ferntree Gully hotels. A bushwalker’s paradise with plenty of tracks to explore, Ferntree Gully also features an arts and crafts market that runs between October and April.
Don’t forget the city of Melbourne is a must-visit destination in itself, jam-packed with unique cultural activities. So wot are you waiting for you? Book your eastern suburbs hotel with us and take a walk on the other side of town.
